I am truly in love with all Peruvian dishes I have had, so I wanted to make something inspired by Peruvian green sauce. This is seriously the best spicy tofu with vegan green sauce. Normally the green sauce is made with mayo and yogurt, so I made us this vegan version. The sauce is tangy, spicy, super herbaceous, and addictive. Drizzled over this spicy marinated tofu that can be grilled or baked. This meal is super simple, and easy, but has huge amounts of flavor!

What You Need For This Perfect Tofu:
- Extra Firm or Super Firm Tofu: I prefer the super firm, but if you use extra firm, you want to press it until it is very firm.
- Garlic, Limes, Cilantro, Jalapenos, Green Onions: These are all the fresh produce you will need for both the tofu marinade and the sauce.
- Soy Sauce or Tamari: I recommend using the tamari to make this whole meal gluten free.
- Cumin, Smoked Paprika, Oregano: These are the dry spices you’ll need.
- Vegan Greek Yogurt: I used Kite Hill brand!
- Olive Oil: For the marinade and the sauce.
- Fried Plantains, and/or Red Onion Salad: Optional sides for serving.

You can serve the best spicy tofu with a lot of different things, but I do have some suggestions. Fried plantains are my favorite side dish, but I also love to serve this tofu with red onion salad. Which is also Peruvian inspired. Black beans and rice are an excellent choice too! No matter what, this tofu will be on your mind forever. You can prep everything the day before, then bake or grill the tofu when you’re ready to have dinner!

- 1 Block(15oz) Extra firm or super firm tofu*
- 6 Cloves Garlic, grated
- 1/3 Cup Soy sauce or Tamari for GF option
- 1 Tablespoon Olive oil
- 2 Tablespoons Lime juice
- 1 teaspoon Cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon Smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon Oregano
- Pinch of Cayenne or black pepper
For the Green Sauce
- 2 Jalapenos, de-seeded and cut in half
- 1 Cup Cilantro
- 2 Green onions, ends trimmed
- 3/4 Cup Vegan Greek yogurt, I used Kite Hill
- 1 Tablespoon Lime juice
- 1/2 teaspoon Salt
- 1/4 teaspoon Black pepper
- 2 Tablespoon Olive oil
Suggestions For Serving
- Fried plantains
- Beans and Rice
- Red Onion Salad
Instructions
- Marinate the tofu first. If you are using extra firm tofu, you will need to press it first. Once the tofu has been pressed, cut the block of tofu into 3-4 slices through the side. I like to trim mine to make it look like chicken cutlets, but that is optional!
- Place the tofu in a medium sized mixing bowl, then grate the garlic over the tofu. Pour the soy sauce or tamari, olive oil, and lime juice over the tofu.
- Sprinkle in the cumin, paprika, oregano, and pepper over the tofu. Then rub the marinade into the tofu. Let the tofu marinate for at least two hours, but I like to do it the night before I plan to make it.
- When ready to make the tofu, you have two options for cooking it. One: preheat the oven to 400 degrees(F), bake for 15 minutes on a baking sheet sprayed with non-stick spray or lined with a baking mat, flip and bake for another 10-15 minutes or until the tofu is firm and nicely browned.
- Two: you can grill for about 15 minutes, flipping half way through. I used my air fryer grill!
- While the tofu cooks, make the sauce. Add the jalapenos, cilantro, green onions, vegan yogurt, lime juice, salt and pepper to a food processor. While the processor is running, drizzle the olive oil into the sauce through the top. Let process until the sauce is completely smooth.
- Once the tofu is done, serve the tofu with the green sauce drizzled over the top with any side dishes you want!
