    How to Cook Tofu

Recently, I’ve received quite a few messages about the proper way to cook tofu. It seems many have tried to cook it and have had a hard time getting past the mushy stage. I’m here to help! Tofu is such an excellent meat replacement along with many others and when done right, I know that you’ll love it!

Step 1: Salt the block of tofu. Generously sprinkle the block of tofu with salt. Salt draws out moisture, and helps pull the liquid out to make the tofu as firm as possible. Make sure you are using extra firm or super firm tofu.

Step 2: Rub the salt into the block. To make sure it is all over the tofu.

Step 3: Press the tofu by placing paper towels, and something heavy on top. I usually use a sheet pan, and put heavy cans on top. Press for at least 30 minutes if you want super firm tofu. You should see a pool of water that has come out, and it should look and feel very dense. Too much work? Buy your tofu press here!

Step 4: Cube the tofu. Cut the tofu into small cubes, or really any shape you want.

Step 5: Toss the cubes with a little olive oil, salt, pepper and seasonings of choice. I just drizzle with a tiny bit of oil, and season appropriately for whatever I am preparing. Then toss with hands to make sure they are fully coated.

Step 6: Bake or Fry. Bake at 375 degrees for 20-30 minutes. Flipping halfway through. Baking until nice and brown and crispy.

Or, brown in a non stick skillet or cast iron skillet. Brown for a few minutes on each side until nice and crispy.

Perfect crispy on the outside, firm on the inside tofu EVERY SINGLE TIME! This super easy tofu cooking guide shows how to make fool proof tofu. If you need an oil free option, you can just toss the tofu with seasonings and put in a pan, you just need to make sure you have a non stick pan. Or if baking use non stick spray or a non stick baking sheet. Add to salads, serve as the protein for any meal with veggies and carbs. Here are some of my favorite tofu recipes:
