These vegan sticky spicy “honey” fries might be like nothing you have ever had. However, please don’t sleep on these spuds! This super easy, 8 ingredient snack or side dish is absolutely wonderful. I just used frozen fries that I cooked in the air fryer, but the oven works too. Just get your favorite fries. Then this nice and spicy, sweet and tangy sauce can be made in just a few minutes. Toss the fries in the sauce, sprinkle with some chives and/or sesame seeds. I would honestly be impressed if I got these in a restaurant, let alone in someone’s home!
What You Need For These Incredible Fries:
- Frozen Fries: I like to use crinkle cut for this recipe, but any kind will do fine!
- Cornstarch: Whisk with water, this will thicken your sauce.
- Agave Syrup: I use light agave, to replace the honey in this dish.
- Gochujang: This is what gives the fries their nice spiciness.
- Soy Sauce: Or tamari.
- Rice Wine Vinegar: For a nice tang.
- Chives and Garlic: Fresh!
I know it seems like these vegan sticky spicy “honey” fries would get soggy once tossed in the sauce. But…they don’t. They stay crispy, almost like the agave kind of caramelizes them and they remain crispy, crunchy. Spicy, sweet and so dang delicious. I thought about the right sauces to dip these fries in if you desired one. I think it needs to be something creamy, like yum yum sauce. However, they are completely amazing all on their own.

Vegan Sticky Spicy “Honey” Fries
Ingredients
- 16 Ounces Frozen Fries
- 1 teaspoon Sesame oil
- 6 Cloves Garlic, chopped fine
- 1/4 Cup Gochujang paste*
- 1 Tablespoon Soy sauce
- 1 Tablespoon Rice wine vinegar
- 1/2 Cup Agave syrup
- 1 Tablespoon Cornstarch
- 3 Tablespoon Water
- 1/4 Cup Fresh chives, chopped
Instructions
- Cook the fries according to package directions. I used the air fryer, but whatever your preferred method is will work.
- In a large non-stick skillet, make the sauce. Heat the sesame oil on medium high.
- Add the garlic and sauté, reducing heat as needed, for 1-2 minutes.
- Now, add the gochujang, soy sauce, rice wine vinegar and agave to the skillet. Whisk to combine everything. Reduce heat to low and let simmer for a 1-2 minutes.
- While the sauce simmers, whisk together the cornstarch and water, making sure the cornstarch dissolves in the water.
- Pour the cornstarch mixture into the skillet and whisk to combine.
- Continue to simmer until the sauce has thickened, about 2-3 minutes.
- Once the fries are done, pour them into the skillet and toss to fully coat them in the sauce.
- Sprinkle in the chives and then serve!
